Introduction

GTmetrix helps us find performance problems that affect real users: heavy images, slow scripts, poor caching and layout issues.

Why we use it

We use it to support practical optimisation. A fast website is not just a technical preference. It helps users move through the site with less friction and gives search engines fewer reasons to downgrade quality.

Where it fits in our workflow

  • Check page weight and loading behaviour.
  • Identify oversized images and scripts.
  • Review Core Web Vitals signals alongside real-world testing.
  • Compare performance before and after improvements.
  • Prioritise fixes that matter rather than chasing perfect scores.

Strengths

  • Clear performance breakdowns.
  • Useful waterfall reports.
  • Good for explaining speed issues to clients.
  • Helps connect design, hosting, images and scripts.

Limitations

  • Lab tests are not the same as real visitor data.
  • Scores can vary between tests.
  • A fast poor page is still a poor page.

When we recommend it

We recommend GTmetrix when a site feels slow, rankings are held back by technical quality, or conversion could be affected by loading problems.

When we don’t

We do not use it to chase vanity scores. The right fix is the one that improves the site for users and the business.
