Why We Use Ahrefs
How NF Digital uses Ahrefs for competitor research, content planning and authority checks.

Introduction
Ahrefs is useful when we need a wider view of search competition, backlinks and content gaps.
Why we use it
We use it to understand the market around a website. Search Console tells us what is happening on a client site. Ahrefs helps us see what competitors are doing and where opportunities may exist.
Where it fits in our workflow
- Review competitor pages that attract search visibility.
- Check backlink profiles before recommending authority work.
- Find content gaps that support real customer demand.
- Sense-check keyword difficulty before investing in content.
- Support SEO planning with market evidence.
Strengths
- Strong competitor and backlink research.
- Useful for content planning.
- Helps avoid wasting time on unrealistic targets.
- Good for spotting patterns across a market.
Limitations
- Third-party data is estimated.
- It can encourage chasing keywords instead of enquiries.
- It does not replace direct client knowledge.
When we recommend it
We recommend Ahrefs when SEO decisions need competitive context, especially in crowded markets.
When we don’t
We do not use it to produce keyword lists without a business reason. Ranking for the wrong search terms is not progress.
